Insurance Claims

How do we help with your insurance claims?

This article is meant only as general guide to help you get through the roof claims process, the details of any particular claim will vary from one insurance company to another.

Before filing a claim, give us a call and schedule a free roof inspection. We will come by your home, thoroughly inspect your roof for damage, and give our assessment. We are not insurance adjustors, however our business is replacing damaged roofs. In the case, you do have enough damage to justify and claim we will let you know, and then you will need to call your insurance company and file a claim.

Your adjustor will usually give you an appointment with in 3 – 7 days. When you have your appointment date and time, call our office and let us know. If you would like, we will send your sales representative back out to meet with your adjustor and show him what we found.

Generally, your adjustor and your sales representative will walk the roof together and discuss the problems, and the solutions with each other. This is a good time for your sales Representative to make suggestions for improving your next roof, and for your insurance adjustor to feel comfortable, in that you have chosen a professional roofing contractor for the job. In addition, both parties can compare their measurements assuring that your claim is going to be an accurate claim.

You then get a check! If the adjustor agrees and “totals” the roof, which means to replace your roof, most often your adjustor will give you a check on the spot for the work. The initial check is typically 50% to 70% of the total claim. If you have “recoverable depreciation” then the second check for the difference will be mailed to you once your new roof has been installed.

If you have a mortgage on your home, chances are that the initial check will be made payable to both you and your mortgage company. The first thing you will need to do is call your mortgage company and ask then what their procedures are. You will need to mail the check to the department, which they indicate and wait for it to be returned.

A bit of advice here, if you send and self addressed envelope or use a FedEx return envelope, this encourages your mortgage company to return your check quicker. This is not a rule set in stone; just a practice which we have found works most of the time. You can also help the process along, by calling the mortgage company to verify the receipt of the check and an estimated date for the return of the check.

When you have some idea as to the timing, call us and we can schedule the work. Since, we typically have several jobs scheduled, it is a good idea to schedule your work, as soon as you know when you will be receiving your check, so you are not waiting for several moths to have your roof replaced.

Once the work has been completed, we will fax a completion invoice and completion certificate to you mortgage and insurance company, followed up with a phone call to assure they received the documents. Some mortgage companies will require an inspection and lien wavers, this is the time to request the inspection and we are more then happy to fax them a lien waver.

You will receive copies of all the documents we faxed to your mortgage company or insurance company, as well as your written materials and labor warranty documents.

Give us a call and let us help you muddle through the paper work, cut all the red tape and give you a top quality new roof.
